Program Description and Philosophy

NPMHC-CHS is designed to provide individualized outpatient treatment to adult & adolescent males and females ages 13+ who suffer from chemical dependency and /or co-occurring disorders (mental illness and substance abuse). Research has strongly indicated that to recover fully, clients with co-occurring disorders need treatment for both problems. Focusing on one does not ensure the other will go away.  Under the IDDT philosophy, both issues are treated simultaneously in the same setting, as opposed to trying to treat both issues as separate problems.  The IDDT model utilizes bio-psychosocial treatment (the whole person) to address the needs of clients and support the positive personal change and recovery of individuals with dual disorders.  NPMHC-CHS follows this philosophy along with a multidisciplinary team environment. The client is seen as an active partner in the development of services.

Our services include the following critical components to promote positive outcomes:

  • Collaboration and a multidisciplinary team
  • assertive outreach
  • motivational interventions
  • a comprehensive, individualized approach to recovery

Adult Outpatient Program

The adult program is offered to clients who are 18+ and are struggling with chemical dependency issues and/or co-occurring disorders. Clients attend group up to three times per week and are assigned an LADC (licensed alcohol and drug counselor) to work on their person centered treatment goals.  They will also obtain a mental health diagnostic assessment and meet with a mental health professional regularly throughout their treatment program if co-occurring issues are identified and/ or needed.

Adolescent Outpatient Program -Brainerd Only

The adolescent program is co-ed and offered to those ages 13-17, or those age 18 who are still in high school or have been assessed to show a need for adolescent services.  This program puts an emphasis on chemical health education, healthy recreation, family issues, and learning positive coping skills to deal with challenges.  Clients attend group up to two times per week after school and during the summer when school is out.

Family Involvement

Family involvement is an important part of the recovery process.  We encourage open communication between clients, counselors, and family members to identify issues and promote healing.  Family education days are offered in both the adult and adolescent treatment program every six weeks. Individual family conferences are scheduled as needed.

Rule 25 Assessments

We perform chemical health assessments required by courts and insurance companies, or those referred by self or others in order to establish chemical health concerns and diagnosis.  Assessor’s identify problem areas and make recommendations, which may or may not be chemical dependency treatment.

Cost/Payment

Services are billed hourly.  We accept state of MN insurance plans, private insurance, self-payment and county funding.
